Discovering how Law of Attraction Works

“Oh no! Not another class on Law of Attraction – that is so Pre-2008!”
“LOA?  Tried it, doesn’t work for me.”
“Isn’t that what that movie ‘The Secret’ was all about?  I don’t get it.”

Illuminated Engagements
You can see Lake Michigan from my back yard! Sweet!

These and more are just some of the comments I’ve heard from others about that almost clichéd term: Law of Attraction.  So why am I know teaching an online and local workshops on this universal law?

Simple: I get it and others don’t and I want to see if I can get you to get it too.  Got it?  Good!

I get the law of attraction and I understand how it works.  I am able to make it work for me – not against me.  How do I know?  Because I’m living the life I want to live as a result of following this universal law.   I have want I want in life as a result of understanding how this law works—as it works for all of us.

I see what this law can do for me and what it does or doesn’t do for others – as they allow or don’t allow it to work in their lives.

The movie “The Secret” was only half the story.  We all know that.  For most of us, we watched it once and then tried it once or twice; it got too hard and then we walked away from all of this ‘nonsense’ and went back to our daily grind.

Yet life went on, didn’t it?  Did anything change for you?  Probably not.  You really didn’t ‘get’ how and why this law works then, did you?  And if you did for a time and it worked – great!!!  Welcome to the club!  However, my observation is: most people aren’t living the real life they want – they are living the life that is.

Now you can start over again – with a clean slate.  You know and we know –you want something better.

I’ve been blogging about universal laws for a while now –because I know they work.  See the picture I have with this blog.  That’s my back yard.  And yes that is Lake Michigan.  I live in a very nice neighborhood now and I have fantastic work that I’m doing.   I finally feel like I’m enjoying my life and living my life’s purpose.

Did it happen because I wished it would?  Yep, partially.  Did I do a lot of action items to make it work? Yep, some.  But how did I really get here?  And how can you get here too?  With your own slice of paradise in your backyard and doing your life’s true work?

That is what I am now teaching in my online workshop about Discovering the Truth about Law of Attraction.  We have our first workshop starting on September 11th and concluding on September 18th in the evening.  You can go over to our web page and learn all the details.  Needless to say, I’d love for you to be part of this workshop.

I know this stuff works – I’m living proof.  Now I want to teach you how to get here too.  Join us, won’t you?

Catching a Breath

Illuminated Engagements
Time to slow it down

It’s hard when you can’t breathe.  I found this out the hard way when I couldn’t catch my breath the other day.  Since December 2013, I had been suffering with a bad cough, which just didn’t want to go away.  I went to a doctor’s clinic to be given some meds which helped but never got rid of the cough, which was growing worse every day.  Everyone seemed to have a cough or cold, with the bad winter that finally came to pass.  So I didn’t really think about it, until I started really having trouble breathing and coughing.

Finally my poor body gave out and I wound up in the hospital for almost a week—finally treatment that worked began and the healing could begin.  I’m still in recovery as I come out of the other end of this struggle to breathe.  What an adventure!

The underlying cause is still not known and I plan to follow up with my doctors in the weeks and months to come.  I’ll be going both conventional and unconventional routes, utilizing a bit of both as I go forward.  I’m sure the unfolding of this last step in contrasting experience will lend me much personal insights and a wonderful growth experience.

Most of my Illuminated Engagements work over the last 6 months has dealt with a combination of me lecturing, providing classes and workshops as well as live channeling events – in other words, a lot of talking!  I’m being forced to slow all of that down, for at least the next several months.  So I’ll be taking a break from teaching over the summer months.  I’m hoping that sometime during the summer, I’ll be able to participate in a Live Channeling Event from the Divine Guidance Team.   In the meantime, I’m going to be concentrating on doing my channeling through the written word.  I’ll continue to work on regular blogging – down to twice a month, as opposed to weekly.  We’ll also begin to publish a monthly newsletter again, starting in June.

I’m writing today using my blog and newsletter platform just to let all of you know why you haven’t really heard from me over the last few months.  Slowly we’re combining these platforms, as we continue to roll out new offerings in the form of DVDs and eBooks.  Watch for announcements on these in the coming weeks and months.  The Divine Guidance Team remains a great source of inspired information for our personal growth and development in the spiritual world.  New information is still coming forth along with reminders of how we can better live our lives in a blessed and remarkable fashion.

This year, much of my time has been spent on my health issues.  I am on my way to overcoming these various issues.   With time, patience and faith, Illuminated Engagements Centre for Whole-Being continues to move forward, thanks to all of you with your well wishes, thoughts and prayers.  May the blessings of Spirit be with you always.

4 Ways to Be Calmer at Work

New York City
Life at Corporate America can be stress–if you let it!

When I am not working at my spiritual businesses, which is not quite yet a full-time situation; I work for corporate America as a computer analyst.  (Yeah go figure!  I’m one of those right-brain/left-brain type of people!)  At my Corp USA job, I’m just beginning a major project.   It’s one of those high profile/high priority projects so the stress level can be daunting at times.

I learned long ago that stress does kill (and makes us fat too!!)…so I do try and maintain a sense of calmness about me.  For the most part I’m pretty good about; although for some of my project team mates, the stress comes quickly and often.  A few years ago I came upon the article below and found it helpful.  I wrote in an earlier blog that I found Point 1 and 2 I find I can do while at the time I found Point 3 and 4 not so much.  I’m happy to report that today I’m much better at Point 3 and Point 4 too.  So becoming calmer is achievable.

The author makes some valid points…so I thought I’d pass these wisdom nuggets along again.  Perhaps you too can gain some perspective by reading and following them.

I hope your challenges are few and far between!

In the meantime, look these nuggets over and see which resonates with you!

4 Ways to Be Calmer at Work: Well-Being in the Workplace

By Christa Martin for O, The Oprah Magazine – Jan 2012

In 1989 Pamela Weiss quit her office job to spend a summer at a Buddhist monastery outside Carmel, California. That summer turned into two years and, eventually, a new title: Zen Buddhist monk.

Now Weiss offers mindfulness workshops to corporations like Genentech and Twitter through her company, Appropriate Response. Weiss, 49, believes that “bringing your whole self to work—mind, heart, and body—helps you find the best response to a situation.” (Better than, say, firing off an angry e-mail after a heated meeting or stressing out before a big deadline.) Here, she shares four ways to infuse your cubicle with calm.

Find your footing: Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, press your feet against the floor. “By establishing a strong physical foundation, you bring a sense of balance to the body,” says Weiss.

Become a beginner: If you find yourself in an argument, don’t argue—instead, start asking questions. “By being inquisitive, you uncover new ways of seeing,” explains Weiss. “That helps you get past roadblocks.”

Name your mood: Work can leave you frazzled—but there’s a way to put your feelings in perspective. Every hour write down one word summarizing your state of mind. “At the end of the day, review your list,” suggests Weiss. “You’ll see that even the worst feelings don’t last.”

Let it go: Before leaving the office, imagine a box. Place the day’s events inside, then visualize it floating away. Says Weiss, “Releasing these thoughts lets you engage wholeheartedly at home.”

How are You Showing Up in Your Life?

Illuminated Engagements

Are you living life or just existing?
What are the relationships you have with others?
Do you feel appreciated?  Are you appreciating others?
How are you showing up in Your Life?

Last October, I attended the funeral of a man who gave up too quickly on life.  Yet his funeral was very well-attended by many loved ones.  It was a sad day for me to see such a show of people for a man who didn’t appreciate what he had.  (See full blog here and how together the transitioned man and I sat through his funeral).

Last week another man passed.  He was older than the man in October.  His wife had passed over many years before.  She felt more close to her mother, who lived with them, than her husband. When the mother died, the wife soon followed.

This man was simple man, not college-educated and grew up on Long Island, NY, the son of a florist.  He inherited the florist business from his father, who really hadn’t taught him much about business.  The man had four sons, his wife and his mother-in-law.  They moved to Florida and continued the florist business in a Central Florida mall.  It was mildly successful.

One of his sons met a woman he fell in love with and they subsequently dated and got married.  They had two children and have been married for over 30 years now.  This son was one of the oldest of the four and went to college.  I can tell you that his wife appreciates her husband and did everything she could to make sure her husband wasn’t like her father-in-law.

Because her father-in-law would not participate in life. He had no friends.  He never talked with anyone.  If you struck up a conversation with him, his answers were one-worded if not a mumble.  After family dinners, he would go and sit in front of the TV and then go to bed, without a word to anyone.  He had no friends and his family learned to tolerate him.  His sons tried to drag him into life by inviting him to vacations but he never wanted to go and if he did, he sat like a bump on a log in a corner.  I asked his wife if he was shy; she was convinced he was not shy.  He simply didn’t want to be by himself.

When he passed last week, no one but the small amount of family left showed up to the memorial service.  They toasted their father, their grandfather and brother, sharing what little of him that they knew.  He hadn’t left them much to talk about.  He was loved, but very few, by choice.

And so another soul returns to Heaven to face their life and its consequences.  This soul chose not to be present in the world.  To me, this is a life wasted.  This man did not live life, he simply existed.  He checked out too early, although he made it to his mid-seventies.

How are you treating your life?  Are you a participant or simply existing?  Are you appreciating others?  Are you appreciating yourself?  What type of relationships do you have with other people?  Positive? Negative?

How can you show up differently today?

Too many people live in fear, with low self-esteem and never really life a full life.  And while luckily you can get to repeat your life as much as want, there are consequences for such action as well as consequences within the life you choose not to live.  You leave others behind, for one.

The four sons of this man who just passed over are now angry at their father.  Each one will have to process that anger in their own way and fashion.  Anger is part of the grieving process.  They are angry because their father didn’t want to live his life.

Are you living your life?  If you aren’t and you need help, find it. There’s plenty of free help out there between social services and religious organizations. If you haven’t appreciated life, start doing so today.  The best way to start is to get together with some friends.  Don’t have friends?  Why not?  Pick up the classic “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and learn how to make friends. It’s a classic for a reason.  If you have friends, go have dinner with them.  Laugh, love, eat and be merry!

You are a unique individual in this lifetime, with much to contribute.  Life is meant to be lived.  Please go live it.  So people like me can’t stop writing blogs about people who give up too soon.

Love and Light Always,

Blake Cahoon

This Year Can Be Different

New YearHow is your new year shaping up?
Are you where you want to be?
Have you set up any goals, resolutions or intentions for the new year or are you going let fate lead you along your life’s path?

Many don’t set goals or resolutions…but then they don’t have anything to guide them or aim for.

It’s alright to live your life this way if you want—just taking what comes to you and accepting what is instead of what could be.  In fact many people do; some know better, some have stopped trying to make life different and some don’t know better.

You’ve heard it before—you create your own reality.  It’s what has been preached to you for several decades now.  And so you try to change your thoughts, your beliefs, and your actions.  The optimum word here is try though.  Did you really accomplish the change you are seeking?  You know you have accomplished the change when your life changes to what you are seeking.  Makes sense, right?

It may take a while—but life is a process—a journey of constant expansion and contraction—that you should attempt to learn to enjoy while you are going after that which are seeking.  Think of those young people who have accomplished all they sought at an early age.  They have accomplished what they are seeking–they already at the top of their game.  Now what?

Now it’s that much harder to maintain that top of the game level or to surpass it—which now everyone expects them to do.   Or they are criticized when they begin to slip and don’t deliver the way they originally did.  Some Olympic athletes and some movie stars are like this.  This is why child stars may act erratic when they become adults—too much is expected.  It’s much tougher delivering the entire full-blown package early in life, than it is to slowly working your way towards the delivery of that package a more moderate pace.  So enjoy the slower, more even pace of your journey.

Sometimes when we try too hard, we stumble.  Don’t give up—but take a rest.  Re-evaluate, realign and readjust your overall goals.  Find some new ways and methods to get from where you are to where you want to be.  Finding these ways and methods can be fun all by themselves.  Make it an adventure to do something new this year.  Life is supposed to be fun, not hard.Smile

Let’s start with stating not that your create your own reality –but let’s say that your reality follows your beliefs and what you put out into the world.  Just by looking at this almost cliché slightly differently—from a different perspective—can we begin to look at our world differently.  This year can be different—if you let it.
