Bah Humbug! It is Black Friday!

Shopping is the word on Black Friday
Today is Black Friday – the day that retailers make the most profit and get back into the black (as opposed to red –which means they are spending more than taking in i.e. they are in debt.) It’s the day when retailers open early (too early) and that bargains can be found if one doesn’t want to sleep in. It is the day of the Consumer and the Retailer. It is the day after Thanksgiving, traditionally – up to recently. But now retailers are opening up late on Thursday night; which is causing havoc among people who work for retailers – they have to cut short family time on Thanksgiving.

Really retailers? You are that desperate???

Perhaps they are, with the economy still in sorry shape. I blame bankers holding on to money, more than blaming the government for this economic picture –but I’m not looking for a political argument either.
Sorry to vent – I may be a channel for divine wisdom, but I personally am still human. And I’m allowed to vent now and again. I never have been a fan of Black Friday – and try to stay as far from the maddening crowds as possible. I don’t need the latest greatest in time for Christmas – it can wait until after for me and thee. My last big purchase I did was around Valentine’s Day – got a better bargain than the Christmas season. I never have been one to shop ‘til you drop. For me it isn’t a recreational sport.

It’s different if you have children –they of course are spoiled rotten. Well, most of them. You may be the parent that doesn’t get the latest greatest toy for your Jack or Jane, Latasha or Miguel. Good for you! But you know you’re in the minority, right?

We here at Illuminated Engagements Centre sell items too and may offer a holiday special. If the product is something you feel you are happy about purchasing, please feel free to buy it. But we may have coupons later next year too with bargains, so don’t feel obligated just because it’s the holiday buying season.

I have a tendency to buy on-line for my immediate family; or I send them cash so they buy their own gifts. The days of thoughtful gift buying for my family is over—they never did appreciate my gifts. And only fifty percent of the time did I appreciate theirs; they never did ‘get’ me. Wasn’t Wayne Dyer who said, “Friends are God’s way of apologizing for your family.”?

My friends ‘get’ me and they get the better gifts. They usually give the better gifts too. I also have more distant family members who get me. They too get the better gifts. Getting gifts and spending money – isn’t that what the season is about?

Of course not….

So as you finish your turkey left-overs and plunge into the hectic winter holiday season – remember what the true meaning of season is – to remember the love and the light of those who care for us and love us in ways no other can. Remember this is the Season of Illumination. So buy, but give with caring to those who can share your appreciation for this season. Sing joy and praise to the angels and those that they represent: Divine Guidance – in all its forms, shapes and sizes – in however you believe it to be so.

Black Friday – it’s just the beginning. Hang in there and be of good cheer. It will all be over within a month or so. Thank you for letting me vent.
