Why Do We Celebrate the December Holidays?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you!

The snow storms are frequent this year, adding to a festive nature of the season.  Folks have strung colored lights on their homes and Christmas trees.  There is change in the air as snowflakes fly.

On TV there are plenty of cheer with seasonal favorites and at least two cable channels with ongoing Christmas-themed movies (Lifetime, Hallmark Channel Freeform). These shows all help to put us in the mood for the holiday season.  This year, unlike some years recent past, celebration of the season is strong.  But how did we land here in December with so many celebrations?   We have Christmas, Hanukah and Kwanzaa, Yuletide and several others.   Why is the season of light and love, of giving and receiving?

We have to look at the darkness of our nights that are falling earlier and earlier. Today, the winter solstice, the day when daylight is the shortest, is here beckoning the official start of the winter season and then the sunlight will start to shine forth again – our days will actually start getting longer again –although you won’t be able to tell until mid-January or even February.   Yuletide was the celebration of the season for the pre-Christians.  The honoring of the new light was the purpose of the ancient pagan festivities, and the start of this whole celebrating at this time year thing.

It is a symbolic time of year for many because of the diminishing sun, which is a natural phenomenon that has to do with astronomical occurrences. Three days after the winter solstice—the ancients noticed that the day wasn’t quite as dark and so they celebrated this phenomenon which eventually turned into a birthday for a pagan Sun god and which the early Christian Church took on as the day declared as the birth of Jesus the Christ, since they believed him to be the Son (Sun) of God (Light).

Today we celebrate this phenomenon with different holidays.  Yule is actually on the Winter Solstice; Hanukah celebrates when an oil lamp stayed lit for eight days– when there was only oil for one day.  As such it was considered a miracle.  Kwanzaa was adopted to honor the African-American home, family, honor, life, love and light.  All deal with light and love and good will and miracles.

Which is why for Christians, Christmas is so special – it is a reminder to us all that the Light is here for all of us to enjoy and take pleasure in. As light workers, we know the importance of Light, not only from our sun, but within our hearts. This is the Christ Light that we speak of – that Light of unconditional love and non-judgment for all –including ourselves. This is what Jesus of Nazareth was attempting to teach and that the resurrected Jesus the Christ attempts to emulate today. This is the season that we are reminded of the Spirit of Light and Love for all humankind, whoever we are and what ever our belief system is or isn’t.

This is why we celebrate with friends, family and food, laughter, gifts and song. It is more than just the birthday of a pagan sun god or the fictionalized birth of Jesus (biblical scholars agree he really wasn’t born at this day or even time of year). But it is a time to remember what Jesus, who I know as Master Yeshuah, was trying to teach us –to: do onto us as they would have done to you—be with peace and have goodwill towards all.

It’s time to remember –to awaken this holiday season and get into the mood that reminds to love one another and be kind to each other –at least for one holiday season of the year.

Merry Christmas!

Holidays are Here

Christmas timeOver the next two weeks, you’ll find the Best of Blogs as our Christmas season has begun.  Christmas is a time of light and love, to remind us of all the good we are capable of if we choose to go down that path. It’s a time to reflect upon the year behind us and see how far we’ve progressed in our expansion process or how little we’ve come.  We’ve already told you that most of you had a very progressive year!  If something major didn’t impact your life this shifting year of 2013, I’d and the Team would be surprised.  But by now you should have come out on the other side of the high impact and settled down to whatever new routine life has presented you.

2014 should prove to be interesting too, but much less of a challenge.  What the Divine Guidance Team is telling me is that if the last few years haven’t been challenging for you, then you may be in for some bumps going forward.  But if you’ve already been there and done that—well, you’re in for some peace.

This doesn’t mean life won’t be interesting, it simply means it won’t be so difficult.  So that’s the good news.  Remember to keep the faith whatever you’re challenges have been or are.  Remember to ask your angels for help, that’s what they are there for.

We at Illuminated Engagements Centre for Whole-Being have been putting together a variety of lectures, workshops and events for the local southeastern Wisconsin, northeastern Illinois area.  Be sure to check out our monthly newsletters and web site for more information.   We’re finding that some of you are reading our blogs only and aren’t getting our newsletter.  We’re looking for a way to make sure you get all the news too and may put out a monthly blog that duplicates our newsletter and vice versa. Of course you can sign up to receive both if so choose and then receive both.  I promise you that I rarely send out emails daily like some do.  So sign up for both!

Thank you for a glorious year!  We want to wish all of you a very illuminated holiday season full of light and love, peace and joy for you and your family!  Without you we won’t be here—so thank you so much for reading our weekly blog and for being part of the Illuminated Engagements family.  We have lots of stuff planned for 2014 – so stay tuned!

Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings!

See you next year!

Holiday Message from the Divine Guidance Team

Messages from angels and ascended mastersMost recently I was writing about the meaning of Christmas –attempting to break the word down to its original meaning which seems to be Christ’s Mass. Christ means savior or anointed one, among other meanings. Somewhere I had once read that it meant enlighten—but I no longer can find that meaning. What came forth from the writing was a holiday message from the Divine Guidance Team. Here then is that message:

From the Divine Guidance Team

Christmas is a sacred event or time period whose objective is one where you may elect to be elevated in your consciousness by being aware of your thoughts, deeds and actions in a more profound manner than at any time within the year. It is where time of deep contemplation and meditation are encouraged, of being in a place personally where one rises above their own personal suffering and human desires, so that others may receive the good will and joy of the spiritual aspects of the seasons. It is a time to learn to give and to receive –for with humility and grace towards oneself and towards all others.

It is a time of remembrance of those who have gone before us and who are today in harm’s way. It is a time to rise above our petty problems and remember others with their needs.

It is a time of reverence towards all. It is a time of celebration of the spiritual illumination in your life and that which surrounds and protects the world. It is a time to open your own heart light and let it shine forth; to remember your dreams, goals and aspirations. It is a time to reach for the stars and remember that the Creator loves you like no one else can and ever will – it simply isn’t possible.

It is a time of singing praises to those who every day reach out to help you –simply for the asking. It is time to remember the human spirit – it is truly a thing of beauty for the heavens to embrace.

Fill your heart with joy, laughter and mirth this holiday season – no matter which seasonal celebration you profess to partake in. Be with family and friends; forgive yourself and others and most importantly simply love –love your life, your family, your friends and those that surround you. You have placed most of these people there yourself, whether you like to know so or not. So you might as well love them. Love them with the Love that the Creator shows you each day with every falling leaf or crystal snowflake.

And remember, dear ones, to love yourself in this season too. For you are as unique as those leaves and snow flakes and you were placed here upon this Earth for a reason that only the Creator and you know. Your mission each and every day is to live that life to its fullest and in joy, peace, contentment and grace. Life your life as it was meant to be lived and you will find you inspire others with hope and enlightenment shall be yours as sure as there are shooting stars in the heavens at night.

This is Jesus the Christ’s season of the year; when you honor it—you honor Him and all that He truly stands for. Today Jesus is known to many as both Master Yeshua (the earthly aspect of Jesus the man) and as Master Sananda (the resurrected Jesus the Christ).

That which is Master Yeshua has come to our earthly representative and now speaks now through us:
I was not here to worship as a god, but to lead you towards a better life so you can behold the joy that I see within each one of you. In each there is a spark, a small flame, and with my words – in so many places and times and with so many meanings – that flame can grow and light your way –illuminating the path before you and snuffing out the darkness of your past. Worship the meaning of this season and not just the reason. For the reason is man-made and the meaning is true: as the winter’s darkness descends, the light of the soul stays true and remains always present within each of you. As you move towards the light, the light will grow and soon new growth of spring will be upon you and the deadness of winter behind you. Celebrate the light in each of you and know with conviction and trust that your Creator and I walk beside you each step of the way. Remain strong and loyal to your path and you will receive not only all that you ask for, but so much more—both here on earth and in heaven as well.

Be well and know you are much loved,

Time for Holiday Spirit

Christmas timeWhere is the Holiday Spirit?

Perhaps it’s because the weather has been warm in December for most of the United States – or was it the mood of the people in the aftermath of the election season? Or is it the ominous Fiscal Cliff? Or even December 21, 2012 – day of reckoning for those who belief something terrible will happen that fateful day as predicted by the Mayans, among other ancient peoples?

Whatever it is – Christmas and specifically the Christmas or holiday spirit isn’t really appearing this year. Holiday decorations are scarce—even in the stores –and they are weak at best –half-thought up and put together. Have you noticed?

I have others about this and some shrug, while others agree: where is our Christmas spirit?
There are ads on TV and movies galore on Lifetime and Hallmark Channel, please the obligatory “It’s A Wonderful Life” and the rest are sure to follow now that Winter Finale TV shows are wrapping up this week. (Ok, yes I watch way too much TV—sue me; I’m a TV/Film Production graduate!)

These shows and even ads help push the holiday season towards the public eye. And this weekend I did see neighbors put up colorful strings of festive lights in clear, red & green or blue & silver. So the momentum is starting –and yes, it is only the first week of December.

But darkness is falling earlier and earlier –and soon the winter solstice, the day when daylight is the shortest, will be here beckoning the official start of the winter season and then the light will start to shine forth again –which was the purpose of the ancient pagan festivities, and the start of this whole celebrating at this time year thing.
