Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!
Every year around this time, I buy a chocolate bunny to eat. It is my little ritual to celebrate Easter and spring. It reminds me of the good Easter times I have had in the past with family and friends. I celebrate the new life or reawaken life that is now surrounding me, as spring slowly comes into view.

Seasonally and religiously the Easter season and Spring break time mean a renewal of life, a break from routine, a celebration of life everlasting. The flowers are starting to come back to life as are the trees. The weather is getting warmer. The last vestiges of winter are being thrown off like a worn winter coat and we toss on a heavy sweater to ward off the still chilly spring air. But we can breathe again—having spent winter indoors in the heat, now we can toss open the windows for a few days at a time and breathe fresh air.

Whether you choose this holiday season as time to begin spring cleaning, go Easter egg hunting, attend a worship service or even nibble on a chocolate bunny or two, we here at Illuminated Engagements Centre for Whole-Being wish you a very Happy Easter and Spring! Enjoy!!

Happy Easter Memories

Today is Easter – when children await the Easter Bunny to bring them toys and candy and Christians head to church at least for this holiday weekend. Good Friday is the day designated by the Catholic Church back in the 4th century as the day Christ was crucified and then rose on Sunday, Easter Day. The entire week is a period of celebration and remembrance for the Christian church.

I remember Easter fondly as a child since I receive Easter baskets chock full of chocolate eggs and small fun toys to play with. I really didn’t get the whole meaning of the holiday –other than it meant spring was finally here and the tulips in my Mother’s garden would soon blossom. Also we had to dress up for Church whose main sanctuary was decorated with Easter Lilies. I was brought up in the Presbyterian Church and for the formative years of my life, I went to Sunday school every Sunday. But on the BIG holidays – Easter and Christmas especially, we youngsters got to visit our parents in the big adult church sanctuary. At some point, during some ceremony I was presented with my first Bible, which had my name stamped on it in gold letters. This meant the book was very special and yes, I still have that Bible.

My memories of those days are filled with a large, dark paneled church with colorful stained glass windows and hard wooden pews. It was a beautiful temple with lots of wood carvings. Not a lot of modern churches are as elaborately decorated these days. It just isn’t affordable. My memories are happy ones and the church held happy memories for me, although I never really ‘got’ what the whole God-Jesus-Holy Spirit thing was when I was child and I was always questioning the existence of God.

My sister and I had the opportunity three years ago to go back to the Brighton Presbyterian Church in Rochester, NY for a quick visit. The church is still there, although it doesn’t seem as big to me anymore. But the main church is much like I remember it. The wood is just as decorative, ornate and dark as I remember. But there was one thing that really surprised me: the stained glass windows.
For there was depicted in one of the main beautiful stained glass window was a host of magnificent angels! The whole picture was on angels – not angels with the holy family, or even any saints. Just angels.
Wow, I thought and paused in near shock. So every time I got dragged into this sanctuary area –the main church during adult worship services – I no doubt would sit and stare at this beautiful scene of angels. No wonder I was enchanted by them!! This was where it all started – my love of angels; my seeking their divine help! I was in awe and amazement. It made so much sense to me now. I may not have understood what or who God or Jesus really was – but I did get angels.

To say I was startled by this revelation is an understatement. To say I was dazed by this new knowledge is a fact. And I knew in my heart, at that moment, angels had always been a part of my life and always will be. When I was afraid as a little girl of 4, or 5 or 7, the angels protected and loved me. They comforted me in want and in need.
As a child, I probably didn’t know that just by asking, I could gain their help. I’m not sure as a child, it matters. I think angels help children regardless of their asking or not. The discernment of free will isn’t in place yet.
Remember if you are afraid of something –ask your guardian angels for help. That is what they are there for –to help in any way they can. To help you overcome fear and return to joy. It’s as simple as that.
Happy Easter everyone!

Blake likes Easter still and makes it a point of eating at least one chocolate rabbit to celebrate. She always loves tulips, hyacinths and daffodils, the flowers of spring.
